UPDATE: New total Raised and we now have a Deadline!

The idea to fundraise for a Water Cooler came from being in St. James’s Hospital in 2011, where my Dad Robert Fox, was a patient. Sadly he passed away in late November due to Cancer.

While there, he craved cold drinks, and we had some difficulty on getting fresh cold water for him. It would have been so convenient for us, my Dad and the many Staff, patients and visitors, if there had of been a Water Cooler in the Ward. It is such a simple device. Some Wards have them, and in many Nursing Homes they are standard issue, which should be the same for hospitals.

Now that my Dad has gone, we decided to fundraise to purchase a Water Cooler, so that families and patients don’t have the same hassle we had – the last thing you want is to be walking all over the hospital to get cold filtered water for your loved one, when they are dying. You don’t want to leave the bedside for long, and you want to provide whatever your loved one needs, and in our case it was a simple ice cold water that meant the world to my Dad. He adored each sip, treasured its taste, it meant so much to him.

We want to provide the Mary Mercer Ward with a Water Cooler, and we are moving in the right direction with the amazing generosity of people. Donations are coming in to us – some via the PayPal account on my website, some donations have been dropped in through my letter box, others handed to me as I walk through the town, and I also have visited some businesses in Arklow Town asking for a contribution, and they have been very kind!

The new total raised today is €184.13

I wonder if we can make the €200 mark this weekend? Is that asking too much?

And to everyone else... I hate asking, but I am determined to raise the money by the 29th March (the night of our Table Quiz), as the Water Cooler must be purchased and installed by then, so we just have to make the target by then!
